14 Dec The regional phase of the UNIV Congress was inaugurated in the University of Valencia with a speaker who is an expert on the theme of this year’s congress
With the theme of UNIV 2016 “The Family Impact”, a regional phase was held on 5th November 2015 at the University of Valencia. The guest speaker was Javier Vidal-Quadras, a lawyer with more than 25 years of experience, also a writer and General Secretary of the International Federation for Family Development (IFFD). In his lecture titled “The family: The human habitat” Vidal-Quadras highlighted how the “capacity to love and be loved” is a defining characteristic of human beings, which results in the “need for family (…) the only place where one is loved for being who one is”. He also established the close relationship between family and the society: “who has learned to love his/her parents and siblings can later love the society (…) solidarity is a consequence of brotherhood”.
Elena Escribá, honorary president of the UNIV Congress in Valencia, explains that in the society we live in, the students are “comfortable” and “UNIV is a way to transmit to the youth the desire to change the world in some way with their research and knowledge.” They are encouraged to participate because “with a little of their time they can help a lot of people around them (…) simply to research on a topic on how the family helps you learn a lot.” She also added that there is no need to revolutionize the world but “we can contribute our bit with our research”.
